Bamboo Rice

I was introduced to Bamboo rice recently while visiting a place called Wayanad, situated in the Southern state of Kerala, India. During my stay at Wayanad, I heard many stories from the locals on the health benefits of bamboo rice and the ancient culinary delicacies made using this rice. According to the locals, Bamboo rice from the seeds of flowered bamboos, and the life span of the bamboo tree is 40 – 80 years. The bamboo tree flowers at the end of its life, and the rice is formed at the end of the lifespan of the tree.
